image editing program. Can open and save as Photoshop
documents
(.ps) as well as many many other image types (jpg, png, gif, etc).
Inkscape
Comparable
to Illustrator, Inkscape is a
free
program that creates Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). Can
import
many image files, and exports to png.
3D Editors
ProgeCAD
Comparable
to AutoCAD, ProgeCAD is a
free
Computer Aided Design (CAD) program that can open and save out as
AutoCAD files (.dwg). The user interface is extremely similar
to
AutoCAD, so for people like me who are making the transition, it's
quite easy.
Blender
Supposedly
a great 3D modeling,
rendering and
gaming program. I'm still getting used to it since I come
from a
3DViz/3DStudioMax/Maya background. From the Gallery images,
it
looks like people who know how to use it can use it very well.

Free
audio editor. My favorite

I
haven't used it yet, but this program
looks
like I can use this instead of After Effects. Wax is a free
video
editor that I just recently found.
Creatoon
Create
animated cartoons from your 2D
artwork. This program is free, and their site has lots of
tutorials to get you started. You can create AVIs or Flash
movies.

Comparable

the MS Office, the free Open Office Suite contains programs extremely
similar to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Paint. Can open and
save
out as Microsoft documents (.doc, .ppt, .xls)

to InDesign, Scribus is a
free
desktop publishing software.

A
WYSIWYG program for creating
webpages.
Can upload via ftp.
FileZilla

client.

program. I
